Regarding the conundrum of the kiwis not beating Australia but beating everyone else, there was a book I read many years ago by an Australian cricket writer who wrote about these head-to-head contests between countries that elevated the team's beyond their default form, like the windies in the 90s vs Australia, same could be said in opposite about the kiwis vs Australia, they must be having some sort of complex mentally facing Australia maybe some sort of big brother syndrome? also they've faced each other so less compared to how often the big three play each other so there's the less familiarity of how to play them and beat them, particularly their pace attack maybe there's some awe factor in their minds vs them, as opposed to Indian batsmen who face them so often there's no intimation factor whatsoever
