And sometimes, it's just the resources you have. I often here about 2007 T20 finals and decision to bowl Joginder Sharma for the last over. Dhoni had no choice but to bowl him, as all his main bowlers were done except for Bhajji, who was hit for 3 sixes in his previous over. And Joginder bowled terribly in that over, it's just that Misbah was even worse in that moment. It's just luck, sometimes.
Right on the money, Jarrod. It is a slow learning process and Dhoni has always known to stay two overs ahead of the opposition. A lot of planning goes into it and Dhoni has been brilliant in the fag end of the innings (where most of the limited over matches are decided), both as a finisher and if he is handling his bowlers or placing his fielders at the right position. His mind works as a calculator and as you rightly said that there is already a lot of data which helps him make some of the shrewdest decisions.
For MS Dhoni, as he has always mentioned, the process matters more than the results. Although results do impact him, he seems to be more focused on getting the process right, even by the slightest margin in the next game. This might be infuriating, but it has given him the results. Gut, intuition or whatever, he is a man who wants to put a process in place and then back it to the hilt.
The fact that this was even a subject is in itself incredible and then to articulate the way you did is even more phenomenal. Thank you
Danke
This is brilliant analysis, J-Rod. Thanks dude.
Anytime, honey.

And as Michael Bevan has taught us, if you take enough games to the end, you're a chance.

I do miss him talking about processes in the face of journalists who are angry their team has lost.
